Red Lentil Dhal

Dhal is quick and easy to prepare and a rich source of fibre. Serve as a snack or as a side dish.


  • ½ tbsp. ground cumin
  • ½ tbsp. ground coriander
  • ¼ tsp. chilli powder
  • 1 small brown onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • ½ tbsp. olive oil
  • ½ cup red lentils
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup baby spinach, sliced
  • ¼ cup fresh coriander, chopped

Step by Step Guide

Step 1.

Combine the cumin, ground coriander and chilli powder in a medium bowl and cook on 100% (HIGH) for 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes until fragrant.

Step 2.

Add the olive oil, onion and garlic and stir to combine. Cook on 70% (MEDIUM HIGH) for 4-6 minutes until the onion has softened slightly.

Step 3.

Add the lentils and water, stir and cook on 50% (MEDIUM) for 8-9 minutes until the water has been absorbed and the lentils are soft.

Step 4.

Stir through the spinach and fresh coriander immediately to allow the spinach to wilt.

Serve with pita bread or Lebanese bread
