As MFDs and printers become parts of organizations’ integrated document workflows and business processes, security becomes a serious concern. Securely managing business and user data is critical for corporations to be successful. Sharp addresses these concerns by providing a suite of integrated security features designed to help protect your information and document assets.
Typically, MFDs are located in areas accessible by multiple people. Unauthorized personnel can potentially access corporate networks when devices are not fully protected. In addition, any information stored on a local desktop computer or a server can be printed without authorization. Meanwhile, at the device, confidential information can be accidentally or even purposely copied from stored documents, taken from the output tray or faxed without authorization.
Protect your organization’s critical and confidential data assets with Sharp’s multi-layered approach to security that includes an extensive set of standard security features and optional Data Security Kits (DSKs).
Standard MFD security coupled with optional DSK security protects and controls the major MFD systems and subsystems (print, copy, scan, fax jobs, network settings, memory components, local user interface). The Sharp data encryption method uses the 256*-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm on all data before it is written to RAM and the hard disk drive. It also provides overwriting routines (up to 7-times overwrite) to ensure that all information is virtually irretrievable by unauthorized users. In addition, an End-Of-Lease feature ensures that all data is erased before returning, or relinquishing control of the MFD.
* Encryption level varies per model.
Threats to data and information can result from unauthorized access to the MFD or printer, or by various forms of malicious network intrusion attempts and hacks.
Sharp MFDs’ intelligent network interface provides an extensive set of access and network control security features designed to prevent these threats as well as document improper device access.

The document control function, available for use on Sharp MFDs with the data security kit, prevents unauthorised copying, scanning and filing of confidential documents by embedding copy prevention data into documents. To restrict machine access and usage, Sharp MFDs can utilise account codes, profiles, passwords and LDAP or active directory servers.
